PUBLIC ACTIVISTS HELD A FLASH MOB IN FRONT OF THE RUSSIAN EMBASSY IN CHISINAU IN SUPPORT OF THE INDEPENDENT PRESS

Public activists held a flash mob in front of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau under the slogan “United for free press. The truth cannot be hidden.” As INFOTAG reports, the action took place on Friday on World Press Freedom Day at the initiative of the Center for Independent Journalism and gathered about 15 people.

The participants of the demonstration held caricatures of the Russian president and posters with the words “You sent journalists to jail but did not silence them”, “You killed journalists but did not kill the truth”, as well as with a call to stop the war in Ukraine.

Nadine Gogu, director of the Center, said the action is meant to remind about the consequences of the war for independent journalism, as well as to honor the memory of colleagues who parted with their lives doing their work.

“We oppose both the war that Russia is waging in Ukraine and the propaganda machine that is run by Moscow. We oppose Moscow's prohibitive press policy and express solidarity with independent Russian journalists,” Gogu said.
